We've come to the last of my three part series on how to put more "happy" in your new year with three simple ingredients - Laugh; Listen; Let Go.
Now that you're laughing and listening more, the trifecta is complete when you learn to
The 12 Things To Let Go (of) To Be Happy
Yes, it’s important to consider the needs & feelings of those you love/respect (only), but ultimately your decisions, and the consequences of them, are yours.
Learn how to make peace with those who have wronged you. Those with whom you stay angry, control you.
3. Poor Body Image
If you are comfortable in your own skin, and healthy, you're good.
Don't let others convince you that you’re not beautiful - you are.
4. The Pursuit of "Perfection"…
There is no such thing, so throw your checklist out the airlock, along with the idealized notion of the perfect life we’re sold by marketers and some self-help gurus. Even the most "fortunate" lives have good times and bad. As the expression goes, “s#!t happens” – how you handle it will determine not just the quality of the outcome, but your happiness.
Happiness comes from results, not thoughts or "someday" plans. Want the happiness that comes from results?
Stop procrastinating, and start doing.
What you put out into the universe will effect all you do. Negative thinking will get you…nothing. Positive thinking is the only foundation on which to build positive results.
"Judge not, lest ye be judged" - not to mention you're not perfect, either
Happiness isn't having what you want; it’s wanting what you have. Stop envying others and appreciate what you have. You have so much to be grateful for; appreciate it every day.
Happy people don’t dwell on their imperfections. Only you have the ability to create the best version of yourself – which you can’t do if you don’t see your own fine qualities.
10. Depending On Others for All Your Happiness
We all need others for some degree of our happiness, but relying on them for all of it is both unhealthy & unworkable. The only person you can count on 100% of the time is yourself.
11. Living in the Past
There is nothing to gain by wallowing in mistakes you, or others, have made. Instead, take the lesson(s) to be learned from them, and move forward. You cannot create a better future while living in the past.
“God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change; the courage to change the things I can; and wisdom to know the difference.”
Make this the year you get out of your own way...as with Laughing, and Listening, I guarantee you'll be happier for it throughout this new year, and your life.
